April Update
Or “Why hasn’t there been any new videos?!?”
So, don’t you hate when life gets in the way of your hobby time? Between job hunting, interviews and getting a new job things have been a little busy.
So here’s what I have had time for over the last couple weeks…
Shoota Boyz
I picked up a full squad of used 30 shoota boyz from a great store for second hand minis, Worlds Collide in Oshawa. I’ve managed to pick up all sorts used stuff over the years, and none of it ever has the mold lines removed, but for 50 cent a boy, I can’t complain to much. So the squad has been cleaned up and based, all ready to be primed.
Gretchin
Skin and basing done on the grots for the Lobbas, just need to finish the highlights on the cloth.
Eldar Dire Avengers
After skipping a couple months of the Independent Characters Hobby Progress Challenge, I’m aiming to paint this squad up, and HOPEFULLY we create a video as well (time permitting).
Oh, and I’m 90% done editing my 40K BatRep from late March, Orks vs Tyranids.
Here’s to a more productive next few weeks.
Orky Project – Lobba 2
The basic Lobba video tutorial is done.

I also created a ‘quick’ tactics video as a companion to the tutorial. I originally was going to only have one video, but once the tutorial got close to 20 minutes, I didn’t think adding another 5-6 minutes of me yammering was the best choice.

Orky Project – Lobbas 1
After to listening to several podcasts and reading articles on the interwebs, I’ve come to the realization that Orky big Guns are actually useful now thanks to the release of 6th edition. With artillery crew receiving the toughness of their weapons (T7 Grots!!), these units now have significant staying power. Plus the Lobba can ‘snipe’ targets withe indirect fire rule.
The thought of nine S5 blast templates firing every turn makes me a happy WarBoss, but paying $35.75 CDN a piece does not. So my plan is to scratch build as many as I can using the following materials…
- Gale Force 9: Plasticard Variety Pack [GFM440]
- Gale Force 9: Plastic Accessory Variety Pack [GFM441]
- Cork
- Wooden Stir sticks
- Brass Rod
I’ll be putting together a series of videos that cover the steps of building together your own lobbas, starting with a basic kit, then a more advanced version. I will also be updating the blog with in-progress shots as thinks get done.

Happy 2013! Big plans for Deff Head Dice
A little late, I realize, but the thought is still there.
Its going to be a busy year for Deff Head Dice, with all that I have planned for 2013. I’m aiming to produce more content for the YouTube channel on a regular basis as well as updating this blog more regularly. I put together the following 2013 Preview Video that will cover the majority of what I’d like to accomplish over the next 12 months.

- Aiming for 2 to 3 a month
- Mix of 40K and WarMachine/Hordes
Warhammer 40K
- Complete a fully painted 1,850pt Eldar army as part of my commitment for the Independent Characters 2013 Hobby Progress Challenge.
- Continuing to ad to my Ork army.
WarMachine/Hordes
- Bring my Trollbloods up to two 50pt lists, adding to the Box-to-Battle Trollblood series
- Start working on my Cygnar
Painting Tutorials
- One a month, depending on material (and what I am currently painting)
- Mix of 40K and WarMachine/Hordes
That should be enough, but I’m sure there will be other stuff I throw in as well…

Busy week for games (well for me at least). I got in a game of WarMachine/Hordes with Les AND a game of 40k with Mark.
The WM:H batrep has been posted (links below) and I’m starting to edit together the 40k batrep, aiming to get it done by early next week.
